3 Proven Strategies to Make More Money as an Internet Marketer

The strategies you are about to learn come from my own experiences as well as discussion with my affiliate managers, network owners, and affiliates alike. My mindset has shifted more times than I can count, but these strategies are universal.

There are so many different ways and things you can do to make money, and these 3 tips will provide you the knowledge you need.

3 Strategies to Make More Money

These ideas have been adopted after trying nearly every business strategy possible as an Internet Marketer. I hope they are as helpful to you as they were to me when I first discovered them.

1. Pay Bumps

This is not always as easy as it sounds, but is one of easiest ways to increase your ROI when working through an affiliate network. Here are a few things you should keep in mind:

  • Build a relationship with your manager
  • Be willing to test traffic at the street payout
  • Prove you can run volume

On some of my highest volume campaigns, I started testing the offer at the street payout which was fine. I was profitable for awhile but the margin started slimming. I asked for a bump including retro (bump my previous leads for the entirety of the campaign) and I would continue with the volume I was bringing. In some cases, that retro-bump added another $1-2/lead and if you are running hundreds/thousands of leads per day on a campaign, you can see how this can help you make more money.

2. Persistence

This strategy alone has been the sole factor in some of my most profitable campaigns. One of the first campaigns I built when I was starting years ago, I continued testing at a loss for nearly 3 weeks straight. Not only was it difficult to continue pouring money at the campaign, but as you are continuously testing different aspects of the entire campaign, you feel each new change is the right one. Make sure you remember to:

  • Be stubborn, but not too stubborn
  • Know your limits
  • Be different

As I have said in a few of my posts, on the campaigns I have been the most stubborn, I learn the audience, the offer, and how the audience responds to the offer. I use that and build “super-ads” which turn out to be extremely profitable. For instance, after I tested at a loss for 3 weeks, I covered all of my losses in the first 2 days of profitability on the campaign and it was continuously profitable for another 3 months.

Being stubborn is great, but you MUST know when to quit. Maybe it’s that gut feeling or maybe you have dumped too much money into the campaign. Whatever it is, just make sure you know when to dump it.

After you have a lot of information about your audience and the offer, you should have a very good idea of how other people are tackling the market. Using that and your data, try something different. I did a complete flip on the language in the ads on some campaigns and they severely out-performed the existing ads that I thought were great.

3. Confidence

Everybody fails, if they say they don’t, they are lying. Having confidence in this industry is definitely one of the most important factors for your success. Do you think Ryan Eagle touches a campaign and it turns to gold? (Bad question, he actually does) – You don’t hear him whining or complaining, it’s all about being confident, or as many call him, cocky.

Actually, putting all 3 of these strategies together is what helped me have one of the best months of my Internet marketing career! Here’s what happened:

  1. I started a campaign because an affiliate manager suggested I run it. I saw some profit but it didn’t go that great.
  2. Facebook did some disapproving of ads and I was demoralized. I stopped for a few weeks as profit was diminishing before the dis-approvals anyways.
  3. My manager suggested I give it another go because he didn’t think the market was tapped yet, so I built up a handful of new campaigns.
  4. This time, I came back with a vengeance. I knew so much more about how to run it and what angles to take, and I built it strong.
  5. I showed volume on the campaign and was consistently running 500+ leads/day.
  6. I got retro pay bumped an additional $2/lead and continued building.

I find when I am lacking confidence about a campaign or I am bored (not as persistent), it is VERY hard to build something that I believe in and truly think will be profitable for me. However, just because I am confident does not guarantee success either. Putting confidence with persistence though, makes for a mean recipe for success.

“This time, I came back with a vengeance. I knew so much more about how to run it and what angles to take, and I built it strong.” You said it. When we think we’ve failed, it’s always best to look at the situation again and go through everything very carefully.

Had you not made that campaign successful (12k, wow), I wonder if you would’ve continued on your current path ;)

Personally, I think confidence is one of the MUST-HAVE traits as a business owner, any business…without it you can’t really put your “soul” into whatever your creating, learned that on my own skin :)

Hi Jeremy,

Great points. Pay bumps are a great way to capitalize the relationship with affiliate manager. When he/she recommends a campaign, instead of just blindly following his/her every which way advice, I would do my due diligence to know how much to spend a day. If the analysis seems ok, to spend say $300 a day on that campaign. Then I would go with it, tweak it till its atleast 50% ROI and get the pay bump to make it 100% or more ROI. Thus confidence with your campaign and pay bump can do wonders not to forget staying persistent :p

Persistence is huge for me too! It’s rare that one of my PPC campaigns is profitable upon launch. It usually takes a few weeks to turn profitable. Then, it takes a few months to really scale to full potential. It’s all about the long term!
